Sports Injuries

Sports InjuriesHaving worked extensively in the sports area over the past twenty years Alex is fully conversant in the mechanisms that result in sports injuries in most sports. Having worked in all disciplines from elite sprinters, jumpers and various ball sports to weekend runners and footballers we have developed specific treatments to help the health of the individual through to performance enhancing devices to improve the power transfer through the skeletal system.

Alex has worked closely with sports Physiotherapists to screen players in the effort to reduce skeletal strain as well as identify weak areas of the individual and then change the dynamics to aid in the prevention of injuries.

AMA Podiatry has for twenty years manufactured their own orthotics to ensure the correct alignment is acquired and the professional is involved from the original diagnosis through to the after care.

Some of the conditions Alex can help in are:

  • Shin splints
  • Severe’s and Achilles problems
  • Knee and hip problems
  • Groin injuries
  • Lower back problems

We at AMA Podiatry are here to help you perform at the level you desire and ensure you minimise the impact on your body

Orthotic Management

We at AMA Podiatry only manufacture the fully controlling devices as we specialise in treating severe postural and joint pathology. To allow the correct manufacture Alex has his own orthotic laboratory and skilled staff to give you the best treatment available. Strict quality control ensures the long life of the device and life expectance is twenty years with little modification over that time.

An orthotic is any device that alters the alignment of the body and this is where it can become confusing for the public at large. The types of devices are as follows;

  • Soft devices are used to comfort the foot and are used in situations where there is little structural pathology. The life of this device is usually three months before the material begins to fail.

  • Semi rigid orthotics are used for people that have mild conditions such as foot fatigue and the life of one of these devices is between one to three years depending on the materials used.

  • Rigid orthotics comes as fully controlling and generic support. The latter device is used for people that have moderate problems and only require a support that is more than semi rigid devices. The former style of device is for people that have skeletal pathology and affect the entire skeletal system. They are used to treat foot, knee, hip and spinal pathology and require significant expertise in there prescription and manufacture.

Some of the conditions orthotic therapy help are:

  • Osgood Schlatters Syndrome
  • Growing Pains
  • Severs Disease
  • Knee Pain
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Shin Splints
  • Lower Back Pain

Pediatrics

Alex has been chief consultant for the City of Kingston Maternal health for the past five years and in that time has helped many concerned parents in regards their children’s well being. Two major classifications occur in children.

  • PediatricsPositional, this is where the intrauterine position of the child is compromised and this can be breech birth, late turning, late delivery time, large child and small womb, and also damage to the womb wall causing the foot or feet to become entangled.

  • The second classification is genetic or structural; this type will produce conditions such as metatarsus adductus and intoed gait. In teenage years conditions such as; Osgood Schlatter’s Syndrome. Growing Pains, Severs Disease and Knee Pain can all be treated by our expert staff.

The treatment of the first classification is often achieved by simple stretching as early as six weeks however, if left more than twelve months most soft tissue conditions develop into structural problems.

We at AMA Podiatry have various techniques that can help most conditions and even the matter of reassuring a concerned mother is beneficial.

Our clinic contains the necessary equipment to allow various investigations including;

  • Arterial Doppler recording
  • O2 specific gravity reading
  • Full neurovascular assessments

Well equipped gait analysis computer for early detection of pressure problems. Our strict sterilization procedures and infection control ensures the lowest risk of infection and cross contamination while treating patients.

Specialised Podiatry Services

Specialised ServicesPodiatric care is the use of various modalities that relieve pain in people’s foot and leg region. This care often includes regular visits to the clinic on a repetitive basis and can impinge on a person’s hectic schedule. Alex has developed more advanced techniques that can reduce the frequency of return visits.
